About the job

Senior Account Managers are the engine of any piece of client business. They are responsible for the day to day smooth running of a piece of business along with thinking ahead to what’s coming. A Senior Account Manager is responsible for driving their accounts forward and should always be one step ahead, managing the overall workload and ensuring that all deliverables are completed on time and to a high standard. The ability to work autonomously Is essential, taking ownership of projects and ensuring that work is completed to the highest possible standard. Core responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that accounts are run as smoothly as possible
  • Day-to-day contact for the client
  • Being the central ‘cog’ in the team to ensure actions are identified and completed in a timely manner
  • Ensuring that the client always feels they are getting the best, most professional service possible
  • Providing informed counsel to clients
  • Being viewed by clients and peers as a senior and trusted member of the team
  • Starting to develop an understanding of potential creative and growth opportunities
  • Ensuring that work is as refined as possible and interrogated where necessary

  • Have an established network of contacts: media/clients/suppliers etc

  • Effective time management is essential. Ensure that you are delivering work on time and are conscientious with deadlines. This should result in an ability to manage your own and others time.
  • Flag any pinch points on your accounts to your ADs to ensure that the standard of your work is not being affected

Presentation skills

  • Document and presentation writing skills should be strong. You should deliver relevant, quality work of a high standard
  • You should be developing your physical presentation skills and building confidence in competently talking clients though a document or pitching an idea
  • You should be able to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing throughout internal and client facing comms
  • Grammatical errors and typos within client documents are not acceptable

Sales skills

  • Always be developing your sales skills and techniques as these are a fundamental part of the role.

EXPERTISE

You should have strong skills in the following areas, although remember that development will come through exposure and experience. Please do highlight any areas you feel you could benefit from training or support.

1. STRATEGY

  • Understanding of planning and responding to a brief with clear strategic thinking
  • Complete understanding of the role of PR, Sponsorship & Marketing and how it shapes our deliverables
  • An ability to find insights in audience behaviour that can help unlock the direction of an answer.

  • We are a creative business and therefore using our creativity to solve client problems is at the heart of everything we do.
  • Have the ability to interrogate and answer a brief creatively and how to position and articulate ideas to the client
  • Be willing and able to generate ideas alone and as part of a team
  • Have an ambition push the creative calibre of our clients and our agency.

3. ACOUNT MANAGEMENT

I. Administration

  • Oversee status reports and ensure that they are delivered to the client on time
  • Oversee AE to facilitate meetings (both internal and client facing) e.g. ensuring that rooms are booked and conference call lines are set up

II. Campaign Execution & Project Management

  • Build skills and confidence to plan, organise and manage events, including co-ordinating: venues, invitations, guest lists, press materials, managing suppliers
  • Work to ensure that campaign activation is delivered on time and within budget, flagging early any issues or concerns to those more senior.
  • Ensuring you are consistently delivering towards KPIs which fit with your clients’ broader strategy

III. Administration

  • Oversee status reports and ensure that they are delivered to the client on time
  • Oversee AE to facilitate meetings (both internal and client facing) e.g. ensuring that rooms are booked and conference call lines are set up

IV. Management of Team

  • Keep all members of the team up-to-date with account work and ensure that regular internal status meetings are arranged
  • Keep those senior to you informed of your work progress and any key action points that are arising on the business
  • Give clear guidance and constant feedback to your team
  • Move towards being able to nurture, manage and develop the team

V. Client Services

  • Show genuine interest in your client’s business
  • Pre-empting the needs of the client wherever possible
  • Respond promptly to client requests. Keep the client informed if there is going to be a delay
  • Start to provide recommendations based on understanding competitor activity, news relating to brand ambassadors, media insights etc.

VI. Financial Management

  • Understanding and Management of Client Finances
  • Highly competent execution of all finance processes, including issuing SOW, client estimate sign off, setting up new job numbers, processing POs and managing budgets
  • Display good use of relevant software to manage client budgets efficiently
  • Ensure that the junior team is up to speed on all relevant systems and processes
  • Complete responsibility in ensuring that all budgets are maintained properly

Financial Effectiveness

  • Both the Senior Account Manager and superiors are responsible for ensuring that budgets are correct and are being effectively managed
  • Any changes in projected client spend must be reported to your Account Director immediately
  • Anticipated overspends must be reported immediately
  • Starting to learn about account utilisation and fee profitability

4. CHANNEL & DISCIPLINE SKILLS

I. MEDIA & INFLUENCER RELATIONS

  • Have a detailed understanding of how to marry client objectives with the current news agenda
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of media, especially in relation to the specific needs of your client, and be aware of the importance that media play in the role of a PR agency
  • Possess established and trusted relationships with key media across all relevant clients
  • Manage and drive rich editorial opportunities including exclusives, interviews, features
  • Ensure that the team are monitoring media for all client coverage and articles of interest
  • Be aware of all coverage from initial sell into delivery and oversee the reporting process – flag any issues or considerations to ADs early
  • Nurturing the junior team to build their own networks

II. LIVE EXPERIENCE

  • Experienced in the concepting and delivery of live brand experiences
  • Have a good understanding of the production process ensuring projects remain on budget, on time and delivered to the highest standards.
  • Have a can-do approach towards difficult requests and untried ideas.
  • Be inquisitive and curious about the latest technologies and techniques in live events / experiences and be an inspiring member of the team.

III. SOCIAL / DIGITAL

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of social media platforms
  • Develop an understanding of emerging technology and its potential use in marketing
  • Conduct research for client or new business campaigns. This may involve looking at what competitors are doing or using our social media monitoring tools to conduct more thorough analysis (training will be provided)
  • Stay abreast of social media and digital marketing trends by reading the right titles / newsletters – and understand where this can apply to client work
